Wellington Castle Estate — exterior at golden hour

A one-of-a-kind in New Zealand

Built into the
hillside of history

Originally a decommissioned Airways Corporation radar bunker, converted stone by stone into a private castle with sweeping 360° views across Wellington Harbour, Cook Strait, the South Coast, and the city far below.

To arrive here is to feel immediately removed from the world. The city glitters below you. The radar dome stands sentinel beside you. On clear days, the South Island is visible across the water.

Solid block construction, wrought iron chandeliers, vaulted ceilings, timber beams. The Southern Walkway and Brooklyn wind turbine trails begin at the gate.

The Castle's Spaces

Rooms that
hold the fire

I
The Turret Dining Room

The most iconic space in the Castle — a round room inside the tower, thick stone walls, a large dining table seating 8 to 10 guests. There is nowhere else like it in New Zealand.

II
The Function Room

The highest point of the building. A generous gathering space with spectacular views in every direction, a working wood fireplace, and a fully fitted bar complete with bar fridge. Evenings here — fire lit, drinks poured, the city glittering below — are the reason guests return.

III
The Lounge

A second wood fire, generous seating for the entire group, and warmth that wraps around every gathering.

IV
The Library

A quiet retreat with an electric fireplace, bookshelves, and board games. Perfect for stormy Wellington evenings when the wind is up and the clouds are at eye level.

V
The Kitchen

Commercial-sized and equipped for serious cooking. Gas hob, large oven, dishwasher, breakfast bar, and generous bench space. 50 amenities across the property.
